Why can’t I stretch a card into a particular time box?

There are four reasons, and the board usually tells you which one applies.

1. The target box has no dates

On a Fixed Time Boxes roadmap, spanning is a statement about a period. If the
box you are stretching into has no start and end date, Shorter Loop refuses and
says:

That time box has no dates, so a card cannot be stretched into it.

Fix: give the box dates — click its ⋯, fill in Starts and Ends,
save, then stretch again. See

2. The item type cannot span

Features never span. See

3. There is nothing to the right

A card in the last column has no handle, because there is nowhere to stretch to.
Add a time box, or move the card left first.

4. The board is read-only right now

Two views do not accept edits:

the All products roll-up on an organization roadmap

a theme drill-down

Pick a single product, or leave the drill-down, and the handles come back.

The stretch looked like it worked, then snapped back

That is the save failing. You will see “Could not save the new span.” The card
returns to its last saved width on purpose, so what you see always matches what
is stored. Check your connection and try again.
