How do I build my first strategy spine with the guided tour?
The guided tour is a five-step wizard that turns a few sentences into a real, connected strategy canvas. It's the fastest way to go from an empty product to something you can actually work with. How do I open the guided tour?#
Click ✦ Guide me → in the Strategy Spine header.
How does the tour work?#
The dialog is split in two:Left — one question at a time, with a hint and a text box
Right — a live strategy canvas that grows as you answer
Progress dots in the header show where you are in the five steps. What are the five steps?#
| Step | Asks for | Becomes |
|---|
| 1 | Your objective | An Objective node |
| 2 | Who it's for | A Persona |
| 3 | The problems worth solving | Opportunities |
| 4 | What you might build | Solutions |
| 5 | How you'd test it | An Experiment |
What do the controls do?#
| Control | What it does |
|---|
| Add & continue → | Saves your answer to the canvas preview and moves to the next step |
| Skip | Moves on without adding anything for this step |
| ← Back | Returns to the previous step (from step 2 onward) |
| Finish & build canvas → | On the last step — creates everything for real |
| Close ✕ | Exits the tour |
Does the tour create anything before I finish?#
This is worth knowing: Add & continue only builds the preview on the right. Nothing is written to your workspace until you press Finish & build canvas on the last step. If you close the tour halfway through, your product is untouched. When you do finish, Shorter Loop creates the objective, persona, opportunities, solutions, and experiment, and links them together. If an individual item can't be created it is skipped and reported — the rest still go through.
What happens once the canvas is built?#
The canvas header switches to ✓ Canvas built · 5 of 5 steps, with ↺ Start over available if you want to redo it.A footer offers three ways to keep going:| Button | Where it takes you |
|---|
| Collect signals → | Persona / research, to validate the opportunities |
| Open in strategy builder | The full strategy builder, to keep editing |
| Plan roadmap | The roadmap, to sequence delivery |
Any tips before I start?#
Everything the tour creates is fully editable afterwards — the footnote "Everything's editable later. This is just to get you on the canvas." is literal.
Skipping a step is fine. A child item with no created parent is still created, just unlinked.
Re-running the tour on a product that already has content will add to it, not replace it.
