How does a spanning card appear in exports and counts?

A spanning card is counted once per box it covers. That is deliberate, and
the exports say so.

On the board

The card is drawn once, widened across its boxes, labelled spans 2 boxes. The
objective lane’s item count counts the item once.

In the PDF export

Load per time box counts it in every box it covers. The panel explains:
“Items in each box, counting an item once per box it spans.”

The roadmap grid on page 3 shows the item in each box it covers.

The per-theme table on page 4 lists one row per box, so a card spanning Now
and Next appears twice — once with TIME BOX: Now, once with TIME BOX: Next.

In the Excel export

The workbook has a section per time box. A spanning item appears in the section
for each box it covers, with the same key and summary.

This is the right shape for the questions people ask of a spreadsheet — “what is
in Q3?” should include work that runs through Q3, even if it started earlier.

Why not count it once?

Because both readings are needed and only one can be the default. If a spanning
epic were counted only in its first box, “what is in Next?” would under-report
work that is genuinely live in Next. The exports therefore count presence, and
the key lets you de-duplicate if you want a distinct count.

Tip: when you paste roadmap numbers into a board pack, say which you mean —
“12 items in flight across Q3” (presence) or “9 distinct items” (unique keys).
